Mk6 to Mk 7 conversion questions

Postby bigbud » Sun Feb 08, 2015 11:24 am

Hi, i purchased a mk 6 tranny a while back with a view to convert into a camper van. The actual camper conversion has been put on hold as after looking through this forum and following some very useful how to's i also decided to convert the front end from a mk6 to 7.

The front end is now converted and i am very happy with the result but have a couple of questions for those that have also done this.

1 - is it ok (legal) to take the vin plate of the original mk 6 slam panel and refit it to the new mk 7 slam panel?

2 - does the DVLA need to be informed that the front end has been converted?

Cheers in advance for any help.

It's the chassis numbers etc not the wings or the front parts that determines the van identity so I can't see a problem with anything :D

Firstly, we like pictures :D

And yes it's perfectly legal, provided you are not attempting to conceal or alter the vans identity.

You don't have to tell the dvla, but should inform your insurance company, some don't like modified vehicles, but if you hit a problem try Aplan, they like modified vans and alloys etc
