Single Passenger Seat

Postby yotter » Thu Jun 25, 2015 9:51 am

Just Acquired a 2011 (61 plate) Transit with normal two passenger seats. Would like to replace these with a single passenger seat but not yet found a Transit one available at a non astronomic price. I have seen where seats from other vehicles have been fitted - my question is how is this done - had originally hoped to put a leisure battery under the passenger seat and now look like having to fabricate a box or frame to hold a different seat. Anyone done this? How easy is this to make it pass MOT etc?
Thanks

Easy solution is to buy a divers seat Mate, and a drivers seat base, that's what I did.

It just means that the controls are on the wrong side, but it's workable and costs a fraction of what single passenger seats cost. 8)

They will both fit without any mods apart from cutting the carpet, as the holes are all there, you can even use the existing bolts.

It also means that you can fit you battery easily, although I have two batteries under my driver' seat so use the space under passenger's for fire extinguisher and junk.

I was really lucky in that I got a heated one with a pump up back out of an AA van, so I put that on my side and my old one on passenger side. 8)

Also managed to get a single seat door card with an arm rest, which fits nicely up against the existing arm rest. It does mean that the existing arm rest is on wrong side but that doesn't really cause to many issues, and I've built a centre console/arm rest so that passenger has something in middle to rest on, and I have more room to store junk :)

Have now found a breaker with a 2013 Drivers seat - I take it that should fit my 2011 Tranny without modifying anything?
Thanks

Should do Mate, bolt holes should all be there for seat base, I even used the bolts out of the double seat base. :)

Is the seatbelt mounting a straight swap over then (is it not mirror imaged fitting?)

You'll have to do some fiddling with the seat belt mounting to get it to fit, can't remember what exactly, but it wasn't major, used only the bits from the existing seat and new seat, and it has passed 2 MOTs since I did it :)
