Distributor differences

Just a quickie, are these 2 the same? The one fitted has an extra 2 wires attached and an extra vac line. Ive bought the new one off ebay and was described as "all pinto 1.6 and 2.0 points distributor"

I would say yes they are the same.
They are both 'Motorcraft' by the look of them. The same rotor arm should fit both.
Look up 'Hall Effect'............... will help with the different appearance.
As to wiring... sorry it was long ago (and in a galaxy far far away) too far to remember.

The top picture is a points distributor for conventional ignition
The lower picture is a Hall effect distributor for electronic ignition, not interchangeable as far as I am aware.

Been a long time since i saw a points distributor
I used to change the fiesta distributor to electronic, why couldn't you do the same? Points ones can require new points quite regularly as i found

Even better, you can take a mk4 later escort complete dis system and fit it, it is self contained.
You'll need to check compatability

Don't see why you can't interchange, Hall effect is preferable to mechanical points as long as you can get the simple electronic module wiring sorted. Don't know too much about the Pinto, but swapping gave a noticeable power/economy benefit on the Rover V8.

Thye are both bosch dizzys, as said 1 is points, 1 is electric but the leccy one wont run without the ign amp modual, if you find a modual here's the wiring.
it will fit the only differance will be the timing, trust me there a LOADS of differant advance curves dependant on comp ratio, carb, fitment ect ect but you will not notice the differance on the road only a rolling road would show up the differances
