Roof rack

Postby GBW » Mon Jul 13, 2015 1:56 pm

I want to instal a bespoke rack to take a boat mast.

The van is Mk3, lwb, high roof.

Are there any strengthened fixing points fore and aft I can use?

I don't want to rip out the head lining unnecessarily.

Not really.

Best bet is to adapt some roof bars (you used to get high roof ones) that bolt to the gutter.

There are metal ribs in the roof (I can measure the spacing on my mk5 if you want) but I suspect you may struggle to make it all waterproof afterwards - especially as they arn't actually in contact with the fibreglass (except via a layer of mastic)
