1988 transit dormobile refurb

Postby cocksocks » Sun Jul 26, 2015 4:43 pm

I have a 1988 transit dormobile that I am in the process of restoring!
has now had new gearbox and propshaft
I ripped out all the front this week to get the worst of the rust out before it gets welded and hopefully motd next week
will be a slow refurb!!

put it in for its mot today, it did fail but sprisingly none of the rust around the doors even came into it. It only failed on the 2 steps and an exhaust rubber mounting! chuffed. im droping it off to have the welding done as soon as the metal gets delivered, then hopefully in for its retest next week. even though i dont have to do the welding around the doors i am still going to get it done though, might as well. I want it to be mint!

They would have been fixed with unwin tracking

If your not going down that route M12 minimum (8.8 tensile strength or above - 12.9 cap head would be my preference)

Had some time to paint the new metal, I metal brushed it, then 2 coats of jenolite. Managed to get 1 coat of zinc primer on, going to do another coat then got some white auto paint. At least the holes are gone!!

Had some more time today to finish the priming on the new metal, had to take both the front doors off to get to the new metal. Getting them back on by myself was fun! Now to paint white and rivet the trim back on

Also if anyone has
Any ideas I need to get some soundproofing stuff to put behind the dash and put behind the panels it's so incredibly loud inside, you can either listen to music or talk to someone not both!! I maybe it's the way these were built but from the drivers seat there is only 2 2mm
Layers of fibre glass straight to the wheel! What stuff should I get?

Had a little bit of time today so started painting with the White, it's had 2 coats but it's still quite patchy, I have been by brush but I think it's meant to be sprayed, goin to try another coat tomorrow and if it's no better buy a spray can

Started lining some of the interior panels as it's something I can do inside whilst it's late. Takes ages as the previous owner rather than trying to sort where the water was leaking in decided to go crazy with decorators caulk to cover every joint and seem inside  3 hours and 3 panels done whilst half watching the shitty rugby team
