Newbie with cpl of questions.

Postby karlpe » Tue Aug 11, 2015 12:48 pm

Hi, i'm new here and looking to buy a lwb transit to convert. I have been collecting things for the build and have a Cpl of questions. I have read lots on here and its been very useful to me.
My first question is a simple one but one I cant seem to pin down.
What type and where do I get the glue to attach the insulation and carpet.
Secondly from what I have read it seems stretchy carpet is what im after so an heads up on cheapest place for this would also be good.

Probably most important is any tips of what to look for on a lwb transit when I come to buy one (hopefully an 06 type age). Is there things that can make it a money pit or just some thing that says walk away.

I will start a thread when I start and hopefully you guys/gals can also be of some assistance .It will all be new to me, so a massive learning curve and fingers crossed.
Thanks in advance for any help.
karl. :D

You need to use a high temperature spray adhesive like this: eBay item no https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/390699864389

I have used this for glueing on the bubblewrap stuff to my transit and for locating the kingspan on top. Also will be used for the lining carpet. Works really well
Thanks

06 type age is a changeover between mk6 and mk7.

If you get the earlier shape, avoid the tdci engines, they are VERY fussy and some bits can be pretty expensive to repair.

FWD have a lower floor than RWD so for a given roof height a FWD would give more internal space, but if you wanted to tow something heavy they arn't as good.

Not camper related -but hope thats of use?

Its up to you really and what you want to use it for

If you are towing find a FWD one (2.0), if not find a RWD (2.4) one. If you get an earlier shape avoid the 2.4 136PS and 2.0 125PS (double check powers) tdci ones. Ideally you want 100PS or more, 115 are good all rounders and don't feel slow.

The higher the number (T260, T280, T300, T330, T350) the higher the payload. Campers tend to be slightly heavy so in my opinion a T300+ would be better.

Thanks for quick reply. Wont be towing but definitely want a lwb to comfortably fit out as a 2 berth. So would you say a 115 t300 2.4 diesel would be a good start point. Would that be turbo or not?
thanks again.

Mk6 or 7 Dear?
Its the diff you want to watch don't get a 3 : something :?
As they are vastly under gearededed
Pop the reg number in to ettis and it tells you the diff ratio

Yes I would be looking for a FWD then - and you are most likely to find a 350 model with that. Around 06 it will be a 2.0L or 2.2

Had a very quick look and seen these on ebay

I have a 110 fwd and 115 fwd the extra gear on the 115 makes sooooo much difference
The 110 is a bit bollokx by comparison really
115s are a bit newer than rusty old 110s too wink
