Our New Home On Wheels 1991 Transit Ex Dormobile

Hello
Im super new to the world of campervans but me and my lady have been rewarded for our patience.
After months of searching and miles of travelling about viewing we have her.
1991 Ford Transit 190 2.5 D (ex dormobile bus) coach built.
only 73'000 on the clock
We plan to decorate inside and paint the outside with some lovely designs.
So super excited for the little changes to be done to it.

IDEA
Im also going to start painting the outside soon and was wanting any advice on how I need to go about it.
Do I need to put a layer of something around it before I paint it or rub it down with something?

Here is a couple small digital dafts (using Adobe) of a bit rainbow pattern im looking to do.
it will most likely change a bit to this idea, im just needing a little guidance on how to go about it as im clueless.
Me and my partner kind of have the Art Skill on our side though

Above the toilet you will see the spare bed cushions stored perfectly
