insurance motorhome not motorhome

hi all. i have a xlwb transit that is on a motorhome insurance.
the insurance was transferred when i bought the van and sold my motorhome.
my intention was to convert the van into a motor home but with every thing else going on in life i have not been able to do it all to dvla spec.

my insurance runs out in a couple of weeks, and not being able to get motorhome insurance i was wondering if any of you know who and wat insurance to ask for,

the van since i got it has had the bulkhead taken out, a window fitted into the side door and a bunk in the back. with a sinks unit.

so its not a standard van any more.

My assumption is that A. It is what it says on the logbook, in the event of an accident.

B. Any modifications need to be indicated to the insurance when getting insurance.

C. To change it you need to fit the internal items to the spec that dvla wants too see with photos etc to change it to a motorcaravan, some ppl have had there's changed to van with Windows, others had no problems.

There's a page round here that links to dvla/vosa that outlines the criteria needed to get it changed to a motorcaravan:-)

I would also check the weights if you want it to stay at 3.5t (if it is that) because it's a whole load of van and filling it with cupboards and ppl and fuel may take it over.

Look on the logbook mate it'll tell you if it is a panel van, van with Windows or motor caravan i should think

its apanel van m8 ,, i was going to convert it to a camper, but dont have the time or health to do it myself ,, there is more to it than i thought there was,

There are companies that sell built up units that you could have fitted, but i was told that you need to have it classified for the permanent purpose you want it for ie. If you just have it insured as a van then technically you can't camp in it and aren't insured as a camper (you can have a temporary bedding in there and sneakily go camping off the record tho) or if it is to be a proper camper then obviously it needs it on the logbook and insured as such.

it's all down to costs tho my dad paid something silly like 5k for a full camper unit that just slotted into the back of his bongo iirc

The best insurer I have found for DIY conversions - including conversions in progress is Adrian Flux.
They insured my last minibus conversion to motorhome and have insured my present project. Never had a quibble off them - when the conversion was completed and I changed the registered details I updated them.
In my opinion a good company to use.
