Gaslow LPG

Postby Wongo » Thu Apr 07, 2016 9:22 am

After spending loads refilling my 2.7kg Camping Gaz cylinder that feed the cooker rings and Propax heater, a friend of mine who is a caravan nut send look at Gaslow system.

These are refillable cylinders that use LPG from the petrol station, Gaslow now do a kit especially for campers that has a 2.7kg cylinder the same size as the Camping Gaz one that fits in a locker under my Rocak and Roll bed.

I ordered a 6kg cylinder in error but decided that it could live happily in the wardrobe by the rear doors which made installation simpler.

I cut a drop vent in the floor of the wardrobe and the van for safety and you also need to cut a 70mm hole to fit the filler valve onto the side of the van, I Then treated that and the drop vent hole with plenty of anti rust primer before fitting.

You can get a direct to cylinder adaptor but garages don't like that and apparently you can't do it abroad.

It's very straightforward and the Gaslow kit is high quality with stainless steel hoses etc.

Filled the 6kg from empty yesterday for a fiver rather than over twenty pounds for 2.7 Kg refill!

I've seen a couple of places refill propane bottles from the lpg pump using adapters and a set of scales to work out the fill level. Doubt the average forecourt would be happy with you doing that though.
