split charger

Postby dredge3 » Thu Apr 07, 2016 2:17 pm

I have a mk 7 transit with 2 battery system. I am wanting to add a leisure battery for my window cleaning (pump and electric reel)
I have heard adding a voltage sensing split charger can screw the ecu. Standard, it uses a split charger of some kind. Don't know if its voltage sensing or not.
I could just piggy back a leisure battery to my aux battery and let it charge that way. It would take power from both batteries thought. My idea of using a leisure battery, is to stop it draining all the time.
I could buy a split charger and connect direct to cracking battery. Not sure how that would work having 2 split charge systems.
What do you guys do with a dual battery system when adding a leisure battery?

my mark 7 was fine with a split charger added to the twin batteries under the seat, i used a durite one taking it feed from that power point on the back of the drivers seat base, it charged 220ah of batteries on my camper for the couple of years i owned it.

That power point in the back of seat, is it the blocky plasticky thing with red cover?? How did you take a feed from it, what cable etc? Putting a leisure battery in and be useful to know how to use that instead of connecting direct to battery - i've got a Ring RSCDC30 smart charger.

Cheers!

They have an m5 stud, so you need a cable with an eyelet on the end, and an m5 nut
