Camper van conversion companies

Postby Wils303 » Tue Sep 11, 2018 2:13 pm

Hello all,

Im new to the site. I am currently purchasing my first Ford Transit Custom sport panel van. I am looking to get a full camper van conversion. Can anyone recommend a good company ? I have been talking to Wellhouse. They seem to be the market leaders. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Wellhouse won’t be cheap but but with them being the market leader they will hold their resale value when you come to selling it and for the insurance you will have more choice of companies that will insure it as they know what it is

Thank you for the advice. Just drove down to see SC conversions in Plymouth. Really nice guys. Showed me some of their current work, looks good. I will take a look at your recommendation.

We have a Wellhouse Leisure Lux-XL, this our second Wellhouse vehicle, previously we had the Hyundai i800.

Can't speak highly enough of this firm, nothing has been too much trouble, we were even given a mobile no to use outwith hours with any questions/problems

We also got a good deal when part exchanging first vehicle, they also buy your vehicles back, a lot of firms don't do that or else you are offered peanuts.

We've always gone for a well known firm for the resale value, OK you maybe can buy cheaper in the beginning but can lose later on as we found with a Romahome!

Wellhouse also delivered our new vehicle free to Scotland and took away our old one!

If you live in SCOTLAND it is definitely worth checking out RAVEN AUTOMOTIVE at Mitchelston Industrial Estate in Kirkcaldy KY13NJ Tel: 01592 655055 or 07742 015383. Alan Baird is the owner.
They have particular expertise in converting the Ford Transit Custom and VW but seem to have worked on most makes of van.
I like their recommended spec which includes, along with with other goodies, an Eberspracher space heater, diesel hob, and top-loader fridge.
A lot of VW dealers /converters will not look at the Ford Custom because they have no floor or furniture patterns and they want to make a fast buck rather than catering for the customer's needs.
Wellhouse are very good too.

Just to be clear - - - Autocampers have interesting designs and they are well executed but THEY WILL NOT CONVERT YOUR VAN. They insist on selling you a van that they have bought in ( presumably at a huge discount)
RAVEN AUTO, on the other hand, will convert your van to any specification you choose and to your budget using top quality kit.
Not sure about Wellhouse, so worth giving them a ring.
All three companies have great experience in converting the Ford Transit Custom which makes a cracking camper as the interior it is just a bit wider than the VW .
Ford and VW now seem to be part of the same organisation and so gawd knows what the corporate number crunchers will come up with in the next few years. The latest high top VW camper is a truly ugly vehicle and sports a hightop which resembles an Elvis quiff!
