Registering van as a camper.

Postby loot » Thu Nov 01, 2018 2:27 pm

Seems almost too easy.

Dvla requires

Section 7 changed on the v5c to motor caravan and to 5 seats.
It says 15 to 20 photos but then they give you a standard letter to fill in and it says 6 photos  so it wants front view Inc reg, rear view inc reg. Rear view doors open and bed as seats, side view of bed Laid down and side view with bed as seats and table in operation, etc.

My mate got his vw kitted out fully with everything so there's no doubt it is a camper done correctly.

The letter wants a few details that confirm that permanently fitted is the bed and water storage and type of permanent cooking facilities etc.

And that's it, job done. He's ready to post it off to get changed over.

Dunno what all the fuss was about

Might get mine done 8)

I remember a while ago dvla were being arse holes and saying that if it wasn't from the factory as a camper then it can only be changed to a van with windows. Don't remember the full details but it may have been when they lost their local offices and they decided to be funny.

It seems fairly straight forward here though.

All requirements are here....

https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... iy-caravan

None of it is rocket science and mostly common sense....

Looks like a camper
Smells like a camper
Sounds like a camper
Walks like a camper
....
It's a camper....
Their requirements are mainly to stop folks getting cheaper insurance etc by declaring a tatty old builders van as a camper by lobbing a blow up mattress in the back and saying its a camper, before taking it out and chucking all their builders gear back in it.

Thinking of kitting mine out at some stage but finding what I need is hard work
