Curtain Rails and Curtains

Postby firewalker » Fri Apr 12, 2019 8:21 pm

Just seeing if anyone can suggest a curtain/rail kit supplier or DiY idea?
I want to fit blackout curtains to two side windows approx. 120cm L x 60cm h, I also want them to slide open/closed on tracking at the top and bottom so they don't waft in.
Checked fleabay, either silly money (£48 each and up) or just too small.
Would be open to using blinds as well if they were secure at the bottom as well.
I might see if I can get some F tracking from a diy store, source the bits that run in them and get some fabric made up.

I use Furniglyde. At bottom I use thin bungy cord to tuck curtains under.

I've just sourced this at a local camping and motoring shop.
At £6.25 per 2m length and the strip thing to attach to the curtains at £3.25 per m I can do the job for under £30 :D

On ebay I would have been over treble that for the 'kits'!

Yeah I found it's the cheapest option - neat, too.

Note - there are two ways of fixing it: 1) with the slot facing downwards and using special brackets. This is the less neat and lets light between van and rail, but gliders run more smoothly this way. 2) screw directly to side of van through countersunk holes with slot facing inwards. This is neater and less light ingress, but you need to get right size screw heads or gliders catch on them a bit.
