registering with DVLA side windows

Postby cliff1 » Thu Oct 24, 2019 10:56 pm

can anyone give me some advice please.
I wish to fit an openning window in the sliding door and similar window on the opposite side non sliding door.

I do not wish this to be registered as a camper van so not sure if i have to inform DVLA or not?

I did read somewhere about changing v5 to reflect a change from panel van to a van with windows but not sure how you apply for this. Also as it is considered a modification would it affect insurance?

It's the insurance that you need to inform really. Adding side windows won't affect the taxation class or anything.

But you are best contacting dvla if you are worried.

Most ppl change to camper to get car rules, there was a time when dvla were only letting these get changed to van with windows which upset a lot of ppl but I think that was when most dvla local offices were getting closed down and the staff became disgruntled .

The insurance can try and get out of a claim if you've done the widows and not told them, this is a big worry.

Yep - most people change it to get car rules. But they are wrong as far as speed limits are concerned. And incorrect info on this is all over the internet, sadly.

Re-registering body type doesn't change your speed limits. Trust me - I've got it in writing from VOSA. You can only change your speed limits if you change the vehicle 'class'. And you can only do this through IVA.
