fiamma zip

Postby lcbandit » Wed Dec 11, 2019 4:42 am

Hi all

I have purchased a 2nd hand fiamma zip canopy with the privacy room, it comes with the basic fitting plates but as the roof on my lwb high top curves it looks like i will have to buy the fixing kit specific for my van, my question is this, has anyone fitted these using rivnuts or tex bolts? As my van has all the insulation now fitted and taped with the vapour barrier and then the ply on top it isn't an option to bolt all the way through using the fixing kit provided. Ideally could do with finding someone who could fit it that knows what they are on with

cheers

I haven't but I would be more inclined to use rivnuts, you could dip them in pu18 or something oil based to help keep rust away from the drill hole. Plus there's less chance of ripping the metal on threads like with a tech screw.

I wouldn't mount anything substantial without reinforcing. The van panels are too thin to take any leverage force generated by something like an awning.
Your best to consider where exactly you want the mounts, cut appropriate access on the inside for reinforcing and then re insulate and reseal the vapour barrier and then make a feature of areas somehow?

Just remember to work out where the roof reinforcement sections are so you avoid those will stop you getting to the inside of the outer skin.

I'm looking at building a rack to fix solar panel and possibly take a fiamma.
Don't particularly like the usual builders racks so found Bosch Rexroth aluminium profiles.
Check em out ....
