Ford Transit Custom conversion help!

Hi all, I’m new to the forum and new to the world of Transits and vans in general so be kind!!

I’ve bought a Transit Custom crew cab with the intention of lining the van, replacing the back 3 seats with a rock n roll bed and putting an awning on the side for camping with the 3 kids and wife.

I’ve taken the bulkhead out, but am now a bit stuck as to what to do next. I was after some advice on what steps to take as I can’t really find a comprehensive guide online. I’m relatively handy so will hopefully do most of the work myself. Can anyone recommend the best place to look for a guide, or provide some high level steps and potentially some assistance throughout the conversion. I don’t want to put the full kitchen unit in as I want to keep the 3 kids sat in the back.

My first hurdle is how to get the floor all one level - do you take the current seats out and ply the whole floor? Also, i'm confused how to go about lining the roof in the boot and match it up with the front section.

Hi m8 not had anything to do with a custom or a FWD van but I’d leave the floor at the same hight as it will give you more headroom in the back on my last two vans I have not put insolation under the floor but have done the roof and sides with recycled plastic bottle insulation I waxoil it before putting it in helps to holed it in place while fitting the panels on .

my mk8 was a mini bus so for the roof on mine we used the Ford roof lining middle section upto just past the sliding door including the side panels so all Ford panels are used even the sliding door I didn’t use the Minibus floor as when the seats and floor vents for the rear heating came out it had to many holes .

My conversion is in 3 parts the front is the kitchen with a bulkhead across the van with a door to access the bedroom that has two six foot beds the length of the van where a second bulkhead makes up a storage area at the rear of the van for the roof and sides of the bedroom we boarded it out with carpeted thin plywood on top of wooden batons screwed and stuck to the sides and roof of the van to stiffen it up the storage area was just painted plywood.

Have a look round the members build sections and pick some ideas off them have a look on google for the self build camper web page you may find some ideas on there with a self build you make it to what you need like mine will not be what others would want good luck.
