Hi Cube camper refit

Postby Noctule » Wed Jun 24, 2020 5:25 pm

Hi all,

I started the Hi Cube's refit today by taking out the old kitchen and offering up the 'new' one.

Old kitchen - from Esterel C39 folding caravan

New kitchen - from Lunar Meteorite caravan.

bottom units almost complete, I found two drawers that were just the right size to fill the gap between the oven and bulkhead behind the drivers' seat. Below those drawers will be a large cupboard.

above I've cut down some of the meteorite's overhead lockers to fit, they only needed about 60mm taking off the length to fit in.

Nice upgrade, it's a real shame the windows are so low down when converting to a camper.

Cheers Keef.

I totally agree about the windows. It looks terrible from the outside too, all you can see is the rear of the cooker and gas pipes.

The rear quarter glass has already been blanked out with green vinyl outside, I think I'll have to do the same for the kitchen window. It's a shame no-one makes a steel blank for the window, I'd happily weld one in. (As an aside, the mini window in the hi-cube extension has been replaced with a steel and ply panel to house an air vent and the exhaust for the fridge, but it's only small, I wouldn't do it for the large window.)

I think I might be overdoing the overhead lockers...

Well, even a small caravan has a lot of storage.

Interior refit almost complete. Cooked tea and did the washing up in it tonight. Here's the kitchen.

... and here's the Lunar lockers.

I've even managed to retain the Lunar's roll-away bed base slats.

Still left to do...

edging strip around the kitchen.

heat shield and lights above the cooker

latching and storage system for new table (old table became the bed base)

awning rail and light

update habitation batteries- currently single 70ah under bonnet charged via TEC3M split charge relay (this powers the radio too), I'm going to add a 115ah leisure battery in the rear to run the lights, usb & 12v sockets, inverter and maybe 12v tv/dvd.
