Rerouting wiring harness in 2018 Transit L4H3

Postby Naick » Thu Sep 03, 2020 6:14 pm

Purchased a 2018 Transit, L4H3 model (think it is referred to as extended with high roof in the US). For some reason they have routed the cables over the chassis on the inside through a cable tray, which is interfering with the campervan interior I'd like to build in it. Does anyone have any experience with rerouting it through the inside of the wall as it would normally be done with cars?
Looks like it is perfectly possible for the side walls, haven't checked in details for the back yet.

Did a search on the forum here, but couldn't find anything on it.

I looked at doing mine but it looked like the plugs on the end of the loom wouldn’t thread Through mine been a bus didn’t have the tray but big plastic clips that stuck out just as bad what I did was remove them and use cable ties to get them flatter to the side panels and use thin battens between panels and the lining boards to give clearance.

Also looked to be to many sharp edges inside as there is more reinforcements for the roof.

I wonder why they laid the loom outside the body work... Its makes sense to put it inside the panels. Its been like that on all Transits for the last 300 years. Why change it? Anybody?

Probably quicker to assemble the vans .but as you say Kev crap idea but it stops you drilling the loom when boarding out  .

I cut the clips out on mine and used zip ties, I also designed a shelf to hide it and cupboard. really lazy bit of design.

I rerouted the harness on mine, so it can be done. But really fiddly chasing it through small passages, so I can see why they didn’t at the factory.

I did mine as far as I could, l3h2 and think it was only to first panel join back to front.
Tbh I've fitted units on that wall so in hindsight could o, should o left alone.

With mine been a bus it didn’t have the plastic channel so was easier to remove the clips and cable tie it back and as above it’s hidden by the cupboards.
