MK8 Seat changes and advice

Postby Woodenman » Sat Oct 24, 2020 12:12 pm

Well I have caused myself a bit of a problem here.... no one "i think" else to blame.

Finished my camper leaving the 3 front seats in for me the wife and our 3 year old... unplanned I've added another one to the family due next spring.

I will change the format to 2 up front and 2 behind.

Questions :)

Seat base box for passenger seat, can I use a driver side one and take the handbrake off? or one out of a custom? And can I use another driver seat as finding a single passenger is unviable? or have people used car seats? e.g. something more comfortable that will fit with the ford base?

Fixing seats in the back, can you modify the twin passenger to have dual integrated seatbelts? or should I just by some from a minibus.

All help or advice appreciated :)

You can on mk6 &mk7 so I think you can on a Mark 8 as some on hear have done it my bus had a single seat so I did not have to change mine as for your rear seat has your front seats not have 3 point belts on them .all the seats out of my bus had 3 point belts fitted if you got a twin set out of a mk8 bus with the floor rails you could use them as removable seats the only difference between the removable rear set and the other twin seats is that they do not have the pull handles but if you put a cable tie in the hole on the spring catch you can pull the catch to remove the seat off the rails

Thanks for the advice dumper, my dual seat only has the center as 3 point. I've ordered some rear seats out of a custom with the rails, I'm hoping this will be simpler to retrofit into the existing floor and fit fairly flush to look neat. Also they are removable if needed.

I'm in the process of converting a Mk8 minibus. I have a full set of rear seats for sale, twin seats and single seats. I've noticed that one of the twin seats has isofix points for baby seat. I say a full set for sale, actually I'm retaining one of the twin seats for rear passengers in my conversion, so I'll sell a twin seat on its own if you're interested.
