Leisure battery instead of 2nd battery?

Postby Chouet » Fri Nov 13, 2020 5:36 pm

Hi. I have a 2015 Torneo Custom camper, converted from new. It has stop-start. Some of the camper electrics are running from the 2nd battery, which only now work with the engine running or on mains. The voltage on the rear-most battery is less than 9v, so clearly dead! My question is, do I need to replace with another stop-start spec battery, or can I/should I fit a leisure battery?

Thanks!

No replace with stop start and change the pair of the same type batteries as if you fit one new one it will kill the new one . Not sure if all stop start are twin factory setup it is possible that the conversion company have just fitted a second ford battery and a relay system to change it to run the camper it may have a split changer and the second battery is a leisure one have a look at your batteries and se if they are the same and connected together for staffing .

My 2015 460 minibus has two vehicle batteries. I haven't checked yet, but does anyone know if the front battery is fitted in parallel or is separate (i.e. used for auxiliary, because it's stop/start). I'm asking because I'm about to fit a Victron DC/DC charger and need to fit the negative from the charger back to the negative terminal of the vehicle battery. But should I fit it to the negative terminal of the rear battery or the front battery?

The batteries are effectively wired in parallel when starting and charging, but are separated by a relay when at rest.

This is so that the "aux" battery can't/won't discharge the "starter specific" battery.

It's NOT a split charge system :)
