Alloys on a Motorhome... Will they fit ?

Postby TransitFlash » Sun Dec 06, 2020 8:57 am

Hello the forum ! I have a 2011 MK7 FWD 140ps with a Chausson Motorhome conversion. Its has stock standard wheels ( 5J ?) and hubcaps with 215/75 x 16 tyres fitted. I would like to fit the correct Alloy wheels for that period but all the ones I have seen are running 195/75 x 16 and I am not sure they would fit ? can anybody advise different or point me in the right direction please ? cheers "MO"

Welcome mate!

My 2012 mk7 fwd came with 5.5j wheels all around. Standard tyre on this was 215 75 16.

195 75 16 will deffo fit. You have to make sure your tyre has the correct load rating for your vehicle.

Also mate can you upload one pic of the alloys you are wanting to fit.

Sorry I should have made my self more clear but Thanks you for the reply , The alloy wheel I am looking to buy have 195/75 x16 Tyres on them but my van wears 215/75 R16C Tyres (on standard steel wheels) . I had the tyres fitted new but not sure if they are too wide for the intended alloy wheels ? I dont want to by them and then find they dont !
Bottom line is ... Will 215/75 R16C tyres fit on the alloys in the photo ?

They will deffo fit mate. How much are you buying those alloys for? Those 215 tyres wern't too wide for Ford to fit them to 5.5J steels so for these alloys (not sure how wide they are) they will fit fine. Those alloys must be more than 5.5J probs 6.5j or 7j... Thing is bud it is all about the load rating on your tyres and the GVW. Is yours a T350?

The 215 75 16s might have a different load rating to the 195 75 16s. So the 195s will fit but unless we know the GVW we won't know if the tyres are legit for your vehicle.

The pic of the alloys you uploaded are nice, but I'm thinking you could get a set of alloys from the newer custom. They are a bit more up to date. What is the GVW of your vehicle? The load rating on the tyres that come with the set I've linked to are not enough if yours is a T350...

Or these ones below also from a custom

If you are convinced you want the alloys you uploaded then go for it; otherwise you have the 2 styles above if you want 16inch QUALITY FACTORY FORD alloys...

Thanks for that but I had new tyres fitted on the motorhome (£650 worth of Good years finest) and yes they are correct for the vehicle. The camper is 3500 Gross. If those wheels I posted are not up to the job ? then I will just stick with the steels and hubcaps . Thanks anway "MO"

Sorry misread your post I see you have bought some tyres new already. Don't know how I managed to miss that. The alloys you uploaded in the pic will happily fit your new 215 75 16 tyres. I am curious as to how much you will be paying for the alloys?

The alloys sold local to me on ebay for £225. I did not bother bidding. I am not convinced that 225/75 x 16 tyres will fit on to those wheels ? And then the comment "are they rated for a motorhome" also made me think twice. But I will look into it a bit more and double check . Who knows maybe another set will turn up. Thanks for your help. It is appeciated.

215 75 16 is a wide tyre, really it is too wide for the 5.5J steel wheels that Ford use them for.
You will 100% have no issues at all fitting your 215 75 16 tyres to the alloys you uploaded in the pic or either of the sets of alloys I uploaded for you. Those factory Ford alloys will all be able to take the load up to T350 no issues. End of the day unless your camper conversion takes you over your GVW of 3500KG (which would be completely illegal) you will have no issues with any of those alloy sets.

Thank you for that , your advice is appreciated ! I will see if I can find another set ? LOL. I prefer the wheels it may/could have came with rather than the more modern ones. Here is our van. cheers "MO"

That's a lovely motorhome mate. Hope you have done research on security mods because those get stolen. I do understand that you want to get 'PERIOD' wheels lol. If you can get another set of those wheels you uploaded go forth Sir!

Well I'm sorry to drag this up after all this time.. due to other priorities I never did get round to fitting the alloys I wanted but... I am thinking about it again ! So .. are these alloys rated up to 3500kg ? Will I be able to fit 205/75 x 16 tyres on them ? Our camper is a 2011 140 ps Front wheel drive with 3500kg gross. Currently running 215/75x16 on standard steel wheels. Any help or advice gladly received. Thanks .
