Transit custom cables either side of roof - what to do?

Postby Rykkers » Wed May 19, 2021 10:23 am

After insulating the van I'm getting ready to carpet the insides.

One thing i can't decide on is what to do with the cables that run along both sides of the roof.

Should I:

- Just carpet over them, it'll be fine
- Re-install the big plastic covers and carpet over them, takes up space, but will be a smooth finish
- Make some sort of wood / foam / other covering for them

Any inspiration would be great.

Thanks

I would recommend making a cover for them or even better hide them behind a ply lining. I think carpeting over would look very lumpy. The factory conduit is far too bulky to leave up. You could also look at plastic electrical ducting. You can get a neat version that is box profile and self adhesive. Lid snaps on to hide cables.

Unsure if this type is large enough but plenty of other types available

Thanks for the inspiration.

I think the square type will be a bit obvious, as the wires do sit about 30mm from the top of the roof. But it did remind me of this stuff: https://www.toolstation.com/pvc-channel/p92673

Which should neatly curve over the wires and be pretty invisible once carpeted.

Will post back results once i'm done just in case someone else stumbles across this thread in the future.

Mine were only on the drivers side so I followed the harness back and fed it thru the panels.
I think the hardest bit was getting to the parking sensors.

I was planning on removing the plastic covers, carpeting the walls and metalwork behind the cables, and then putting the covers back up. I reckon it would be the neatest way to do it.
