1 camping weekend

Postby Johnftc » Mon Aug 09, 2021 10:55 pm

So got my transit connect camper finished so went on our 1st camping trip. Didn’t go far only 40 mins away from home and luckily didn’t rain. Went on a camp site with showers and toilets and 240v hook up although we didn’t use the mains power. Admittedly the connect isn’t the biggest camper in the world but it was sufficient for our needs. Spent most of the time outside on chairs and then to bed around 9.30 after a few beers. Downloaded 2 films on Netflix so was great in the back watching them. I hung the iPad with a bungee across a couple of holes in the rear doors and was great. Like been in a very small cinema ha ha. Pros are no messing with tents etc and ability to go out to shops in van at the drop of a hat. Cons are obviously the size but was amazed at how many real campers came to look at the van and were very impressed. Just rigged up a 100w LED driver in a box to supply the cool box which is only 12v so could only cool things when driving as didn’t want to drain my small 7ah leisure battery so now I can use the 240v hook up on our next camping trip. Anyway a few photos attached

Well done glad it’s ok the only difference I would have done was to remove the bulkhead and get a set of internal front screens give somewhere to put things at night that you can get to without getting out of the van and give a bit more air space .

Thanks, yeah removing the bulkhead was my original plan but it’s a 3 seater and the head rests and 3rd seat belt are attached to the bulkhead so decided not to as we need 3 seats (3rd seat for 2 small dogs) I cut the big hole in it for light and can reach in and out of the front so not as bad as I thought it was going to be.

As long as it suits you and does what you want with self built vans you can make it to what ever you need all you need now is get out and enjoy it.

Cheap way to make window blinds.

Buy some carpet protector sheet and a roll of foil bubble wrap insulation from Wickes or simalar.

Cut out the floor protector to the window shape and cover with foil insulation. Glue them together.

For best results make the corigations run top to bottom of the windscreen.

Attach the side ones with velcro circles.

Cheers James
