Fitting swing out table

Can I check with someone is it okay to drill into the area behind the fuel cap to fit the typical style swing out table or does this go into the tank?

The filler neck for the diesel tank is on a flexible pipe so if the fuel level is low you should be able to remove it to dril the door post .or if you remove the plastic trim is the holes in the panel to fit threaded inserts mine been a x bus has a grab handle on it so the panel maybe pre drilled .
