Fitting rib altair bed onto unwin rail system

Postby Roy748 » Thu Dec 09, 2021 5:02 pm

Hello all.
New member here so please bear with me if this topic has been discussed before.
I am looking to fit my rib altair bed onto unwin rails in order to give me more versatility in my intended converted van (transit custom lwb). I have purchased the bed and some unwin T-bolts which I understand are used to allow sliding of the bed, but not removal which is fine by us. Only having measured the diameter/thickness of the bed frame, the 40mm t-bolts are not protruding enough through the frame to secure sufficiently. Has anyone else experience this or know of an alternative way of fixing the bed to the rails.

I have many more questions but for now would really appreciate any advice on this issue.

Thanks in advance

Can you use a sleeve nut through the frame to reach the threads on the T bolt?

Hello
Thanks for your suggestion, it's possible but would then require the use of a spanner or Allen key to adjust each time we wish to move it. I was hoping to be able to fit ratchet type handles for quick adjustment. Sadly I am of the opinion I will have to fix the bed permanently to the floor as cannot see any alternatives.
Hopefully someone else may have a workable solution

You could weld a handle to the top of the sleeve nut so no tools are required? theres always a way if you are ingenious

Or drill out the holes in the base of the bed to give a bit of extra space, use some M10(?) thread couplers, and then you could use a bolt of any type you want, or even just extend the thread with a bit of threaded bar and then use your original intent? You might want to thread lock the couplers on to the T bolts though, and maybe cut down the T bolts and couplers?
