Chinese diesel heater fuel supply options.

Postby mtbcol1n » Sun Apr 03, 2022 10:52 pm

Hello all.
Finally managed to get back on the forum after forgetting all my login details (thanks admin ).
Nearly ready to fit my cdh but not sure what to do about the fuel supply for it. Would like to use the vehicle tank but don't really have the room etc. to drop the tank. Option two external under van tank. Anyone fitted one, where did you put it? How do you fill it? Photos etc. Some one on another forum said they'd drilled a small hole in the tanks breather pipe and put the cdh fuel line Into that but not sure if it's MOT legal. What about teeing into an underbonnet fuel line?

Any other thoughts welcome....apart from a tank inside the van..boss says NO, and I agree

Thanks in advance, nice to be back
Colin.

Forgot to say it's a 2011 Mk7 FWD 2.2 Diesel

Can't you just tee into the existing fuel line?

Morning all.

So I've just had a reply on another forum, and they've said T into the return line as it's what all the big motorhome companies do, and it won't rib the engine of deisel as it's the return line. So, question is, where is the return line? Anyone got pictures they can show me please. I assume an ordinary windscreen washer T price with some small clips will suffice if I go down this route?

Thanks
Colin :?

On the mk5 transit and older they used to T into the main fuel line but all the information I had when fitting mine to the mk 6 tdci has been to use the Eberspacer kit into the tank at the sender unit as if connected in the van fuel lines can give problems.I did my mk8 with a trolley Jack wasn’t to bad but my mate had his done at a local garage that does his mot did it at the same time .

Thanks dumper. Yeah, I'm not keen on going down the teeing in route, and I think you've confirmed that fir me. Ok on earlier vans maybe?

Thanks

Colin. :)

Yes on my two x BT vans mk 4 & 5 they where tee ,d into the main fuel feed line the tank kit I got was from Butler technique for both the mk6 & mk 8 even there been 10 years age difference it was the same kit with the same instructions.
I am really impressed with the Chinese heater mine is a direct replacement for a fully working D 3 the control system on them is really good I set mine on pulse per minute so it is constant at the desired temperature but I don’t really trust it I never have used a night heater while sleeping on this one I have a inline switch in the power line so it’s only on when awake in the van .
For the price if I got a problem with it with them being so cheap it would be easier to just replace it .

At today's road diesel price, and red diesel no longer available, just use the heater tank and fill with kerosene.

Good idea but having a tank inside of a panel van conversion I think no matter how careful you are filling it you would still get a smell from it be ok on a Coachbuilt one with it in a outside locker.I find that my mpg doesn’t drop off very much even the D 3 Eberspacer was the same .

I use mine about once a week. Usually refill about 2 litres of kero. I actually use an all-in-one Chinese with a 5 litre tank. Haven't had a problem with smell yet, no spills, just do it super carefully and keep cloth at hand.
Just on the subject of all-in-ones, some people warn of potential CO leakage because the exhaust manifold (connection with exhaust pipe) is actually inside the van. The heater unit is raised above floor level by about 30mm, inside the all-in-one casing. But I was very particular about the connection and inspect it regularly. Plus I tend not use it while sleeping. That, plus two CO monitors in use - one in the habitation area and one down beside the heater, in the boot.
I like the simplicity of the unit, very convenient, plug and play. And works great. £100 for the heater, £180 for the Bobil hot water system.

Evening all
Will be fitting the eberspacher kit to my main tank Monday to supply my heater. Do I need to cut anything off the pickup straw to avoid it draining my main tank or it it already cut to avoid this. Instruction do not mention anything.

Cheers
Coin.
