DIESEL HEATER PICK UP "STRAW" FOR MAIN TANK/CDH SUPPLY.

Postby mtbcol1n » Sun Apr 24, 2022 12:43 am

Morning all

I've got the eberspacher kit from butler, and will be fitting it Monday.

The instructions don't mention it but do I need to cut anything off the "straw" pick up tube to avoid the heater draining my tank completely, or is it the correct length from the supplier already? Van is: Mk7 2011 2.2 fwd mwb.

Cheers

Colin.

Depends if it's a universal kit with just a pipe to go in the tank or if your planning on using the dedicated port on the to of the fuel sender unit?
Have a search there's loads of info if you look.
Butler supply a fitting kit which clips straight onto the sender unit, you just need to cut the end off the port as it's blanked when not used.

So just to confirm, as I've got an eberspacher kit ( clip, straw, pipe etc.) cut nothing of the straw?
I have looked a lots of stuff on line, but there's nothing conclusive and some say cut some off. I just want to get it all set up before crawling under the van.
Thanks
Colin.

The kit number I have is: 29.2199.017193 "FUEL KIT FORD TRANSIT FUEL SENDER D. If that helps confirm cut any off the straw or not?

I’ve fitted 3 to mk8 s and not cut anything off the straw they all stop taking fuel out of the tank at a 1/4 of a tank I do not park up overnight with less then 1/2 a tank and never had a problem my mk6 used to run down to a 1/8 of a tank before cutting out but I didn’t use the straw on that I used the down pipe in the tank that was a part of the van fuel gauge.

Cheers dumper. I'll not cut anything off the straw. As you, I never have less than half a tank anyway, so I've if the straw goes to the bottom of the tank I'd always have enough + my spare 10 litres in my black container for "emergencies :D

They are not that heavy on fuel even my old D3 was ok this Chinese I don’t have replaced it with is even better as it is more controllable plus I think if you ran it for a week the battery would give out first.cheers
