Sealant for fiamma roof vents

Postby Redvee » Fri Aug 11, 2023 12:00 pm

Our Mk7 conversion has two Fiamma roof vents and they aren't 100% watertight, sometimes when it rains they are, other times they both leak. I know I'll have to get up on the roof and run some more sealant round the base etc. What is the best sealant for the job? Looking briefly in Dyas etc there are numerous sealants but I want to but a tube of sealant that is up for the job of being out in all weathers and can handle the 70mph buffeting when we are on the motorway.
This might be a temporary measure and potentially I might have to remove them and refit them with new sealant, fingers crossed adding more sealant will cure the issue.

Sykaflex is usually the go to brand for that kind of thing.
But tigerseal also make some good stuff.

Thanks.
We stopped at a friends place on our travels theis weekend and he had a set of tall steps so I had a look and could see a possible gap in the sealant that could be the cause of our intermittent leak. Luckily for me in the yard where Bessie is parked the landlord has stored some scaffold tressles that might be high and stable enough for me to get up on the roof and seal the vents better.

Syka 522 was used in a YT conversion video and also one of the first options on Jeff's site.

Done the job a few weeks ago and despite 700 miles up n down the country and the rain it seems to have been a success.
