FORD TRAVELHOME REPAIRS

Postby MRHOSE » Fri Feb 27, 2009 8:36 pm

Hello all Travelhome owners, I am new to this forum, can anybody help with a few questions on a 1987 Ford Travelhome?
I am repairing some damage to the body of our camper and looking for some of the rippled aluminium panelling - can anybody help out? Also I am considering fitting a towbar - it is a SWB vehicle and the body over shoots the rear of the chasis by about 3 feet. Does anyone have experience of fitting a towbar to these vehicles? Great forum! Cheers, Simon :D

Hi, does your camper look like this? as this looks like a chassis cab with a motorhome body on the back.

If it is similar to this then a towbar off a chassis cab might fit.

To repair the aluminium sides sound awkward as that stuff isnt common.
This company has managed to do it from the looks of their website.

Thanks for your help Dachre! Yes it is exactly that model. Can you please advise what a Chassis Cab Towbar is? Sorry if I am being thick! Thanks, Simon

Hi, Ford built some Transits with big ladder type chassis and little cabs, they then get used for making Transit tippers, pick-ups, loaders...... and sometimes campers.

Here's a pickup/dropside.

Here's the Transit chassis on them... This one has a twin wheel rear axle.

Your camper looks like it has a fiberglass/plastic/aluminium body placed on top of the chassis.

This is a towbar from EBay for a 91-00 Transit Chassis cab. I couldnt find one for a 87 model, but you get the idea.

So i was just saying perhaps a second hand one from a 87 Chassis cab will fit onto the back of yours. But 'perhaps' is the key word as i dont know for sure if a chassis cab is the same (some motorhome companies make special low chassis) as yours without looking or even if the body panels on the back of your camper will get in the way of a towbar.

but i hope this helps..

Hi thanks for your reply - I am looking for a piece of aluminium sheet that makes up the rear body section, for starters but would be interested in other parts if you can indicate what you have. Cheers.

If it's an early wedge with the small chassis you "may" find it has an aluminium chassis extenson on the rear, best to check cos they are not really suitable for towbars.
You might not, it all depends on what size body the conversion company put on the ford chassis.
Worth checking before you buy a towbar :?:

Mk7 transit ambulance
Mk1 tourneo connect
Mk1 Mondeo 1.8 STD
Mk5 fiesta 1.25
