Slideout

Postby RogerandJean » Thu Mar 05, 2009 8:02 pm

Has anyone put a slideout on a smiley transit. If so, any pics, websites or info about it please.
We have an ex BT LWB. I have put a fixed bed across the back end. Kitchen on the wall opposit the sliding door and a bathroom between the bed and sliding door. The front seats swivel and we have a double bench seat in the sliding doorway. We've used it succesfully all around Europe.
I would like to make the kitchen slide out about 18" from the gutter down and from behind the (drivers) front pillar to the bed about 5'

Cheers Roger
I think therefore I.................um?

That does sound a good idea to gain extra space.

Put some photos of the van up if you want to, sounds like a great build so far.

I have seen a few slideouts on ebay but not many.

I am NOT a great campervan fan, but wondered just how the slideouts work.
Is the support in the roof (i.e. suspended) or in the floor, which is my guess.
The only one I have had a (quick) look at appeared to be a canvas type roof (on the slideout)
it rolled from a roller on the top of the outer edge of the slideout, though that MAY have been just to 'protect/weatherproof' the mech below.

I've been thinking of a variation of this type, using Hafle Sliders, van looks standard from the outside! :D

This type can have the galley mounted in the slideout, providing outdoor cooking in good weather, or with an awning (or tarp) all year round! Image

The Self Build Motor Caravanners Club should be a good source of info, Image it has a Forum too.

thats pritty cool (for a ducato  ) one problem is you'd loose a side door - unless there is a door in the back of the slide out

but i dont think that would be too tricky to do especially if the sliders are off the shelf :D

In the Ducato pictured there is a side door on the off side on hinges, very neat looking about 2' wide. However while amazingly innovative, I didn't like this slideout as the bed was in it and it was only about 3'6 wide and it was the only bed in the van. It did feel very spacious when slid out and still as a settee though and the full width rear washroom with seperate shower was very nice.

It's a cool idea, once again for a tall guy 6'4 nothing is big enough, I still can't stand up in the van anyhow

The Ducato has an advantage in that it's the widest van out there with sides as straight as any out there - the new one is even wider. But still not wide enough for me to sleep across!

Greg.
