Postby Guy88 » Wed Mar 11, 2009 9:11 pm

Do i really need a headlining in my camper conversion

I am thinking as its RWD the height is limited anyway

could i get away with using self adhesive carpet stuck srtaight to the metal, im going to be doing the pillars and bits inside so can i do the roof aswell

Its a MK6 low roof fitted with a night heater so insualtion aint important really 8)

The OE headlinings will lose you approx. 2" so won't make a great deal of difference, as you're already limited on headroom with a low roof RWD. They look much better IMO, matching perfectly to the cab headlining. Unless you can find Tourneo (not GLX) ones, new will be only option, and best part of £300.
If you use carpet, I'd make sure it's a light colour.

I Had a similar decision, could not find a second hand roof lining anywhere,
tried sticking veltrim carpet (nice and flexible & Hardwearing) to the roof, but it didnt look right with the corigated bits,
NOW Ive stuck 3m thinsulate insulation up on it first, and next week going to cut ply to size and veltrim it, its quick to veltrim the ply & fix it up, ive already done the sides
I may even batten it out a bit, and get some celotex insulation in aswell,

its keeping it cool ive found the hardest

Just some idea's

100T280, suggested you make it a light colour, I agree entirely.
I got a ride in a neighbours Alfa (dunnowat) with a black headlining and it was surprisingly claustrophobic.
I got a little black book with me poems in

I saw a 'headlining' done with laminate flooring once it is flexible so its is probably fairly easy to get a gentle curve on it. That looked really nice.... bit like being on a boat.... and its easy to clean.

just a thought.
