Postby john gardener » Thu Mar 19, 2009 9:40 pm

hi all,as title, ive got an ex jarvis railway van 1999.fitted with the night heater, problem is it only runs for about 2 mins, then knocks off.
on the dash i have a knob with 1 to 4 on it.which i presume is the thermostat.
there is a hole next to the knob on the dash(ford pre cut one) were sumthing was fitted, not sure if its anything to do with the night heater.
any advice would be great
many thanks john

hi guy,ive had the van about a year, and its always been like that,i thought there was a bit missing.
it fires up and you can hear the tick-tick-tick of the pump working but then just cuts out.
i thought maybe when jarvis decomissioned the van the disconected something.
anyway, its got round to the racing season again, and im sleeping in the van 2-3 times a month,so i would like it working .
many thanks john

hi john ,it could be a number of things! it sounds like it isnt working on the glow pin ,you need to check and see if power is at the glow plug ,and go from there, the parts for the heaters are alot of money ,but i wouldnt be without mine!

thanks mark, will check see if ive got power to the pin.

just a thought, are these heaters ok to be left running through the night on low ?.as they are vented outside by the exhaust

many thanks john

ummmmmmm seems ive c*cked up on the model.ive got a d1l compact.
but the good news is.....ive took the cover off the unit and bingo, the multi plug was corroded, managed to clean the contacts and the plug and wahey it ran constant for 30 mins and nice and hot.this model also has an extenal exhaust so do you think the same rule applies for running over night?.
at least i'll be warm while away quad racing which is a bonus.

many thanks for the replies,john

8) 8) 8) 8) wow you lucky man
yes it will run fine mate , it has a 1800wat output instead of the 2200wat from the d2 ,
i am shocked that a old unit would be fitted in a late vehicle tho, but hey it works what a result!

Because it has an external exhaust you can run it forever if you want :)

Leave them on as long as you want, it'll only stop when battery voltage drops below 10, or the fuel runs out. Very low battery drain once they're fired up and glow pin goes out, had mine running constant for 5 days and nights, without starting the van. 3C outside, 19C inside, bee's knees!
