Interior unit/cupboard materials

Postby Bemo » Fri Apr 03, 2009 12:25 pm

Hi, i am going to start making units/cupboard for my self build camper at the weekend, what is the best stuff to use to make them from, ideally i would like a beech finish, are pre built kitchen cupboards an option? :)

prebuilt kitchen units are not an option they are too wide. You need to have something around 16 inches wide. Old caravan units is one option the other is build your own

You could have a look at the likes of wickes as they do a budget kitchen range, you could have a look to see what you think, as if you go for the base units you could cut them to the depth you require for you hob / sink and to the shape of your van as well, but go for the full height door as i don't think you will get the draws to work.

you can buy furntiture board in any colour and thats what the pros use but u have to edge it? you could make a lightweight frame for the whole job out of slats or 2" x 2" then clad it with laminate flooring as i did(looks amazing and u can have any shade being laminate) but i havent seen yet how heat/damp/cold is going to affect the neat laimate yet over time....
