way of mounting my table - split thread

Postby Breakdown Biker » Sun Apr 12, 2009 12:26 am

Hi Joe, sorry this is off the subject.
Perhaps I could pick your brains on a way of mounting my table, as you seem to have spent some time on this subject. I want to use the table from my donor van which had a solid back door. My problem is how to mount it in the new van, which has opening doors with windows. I could post some pictures if you think you can help. :?:

Cheers mate,
This is the only picture I have to hand that shows the doors inside, (didn't expect such a speedy reply :D ) but I will do a mock-up tomorrow and post some pictures.

A mock-up picture would be better. Does it have to fit to the back doors or could you use a leg than fits into a socket bolted to the floor, like this CHROME ISLAND TABLE LEG SET

Hi Joe, sorry it took a while to get back to you.(server crashed last night). Here's some pictures of the table balancing where I'd like to put it. My layout allows for it to be stored behind the drivers seat when the doors are open or the bed is out. The chrome post type looks great but i'm hoping to use what I've got if possible.

This is roughly where the table meets up

Any ideas on how to fabricate some kind of bracket would be appreciated.

I've come up with a couple of ideas that should do the job, I'll sketch them out for you, might not be able to do it tonight though.

why not use the curved hook that caravans use to hold the table to the outer wall, its 2 curved hooks on the table and 2 recievers on the wall, so you have to hold it at an angle of something like 45 degrees upwards to hook it in then lower it level onto its leg. The one i mean is usually on the drop diner that makes a bed on the side wall of the caravan

Somehting like http://www.a1leisuredirect.co.uk/pair-o ... -633-p.asp

As fact hunt says you lift the table in at about 45 deg then lower it down and it holds it

You also get a version of it in a strip

you could do with fixing it to the n/s door so while the tables in place you can still open the o/s door  :D

i.e use that retaining clip bracket on the n/s door and just a support piece on the o/s one :D

Those hooks look like they'll do the job, not sure if you've got enough of the door showing on top though, you may have to fit them to a piece of wood first. My ideas attach to the underneath but will require fabrication. If you made 2 of these...
Image
and screwed them to the underside of the table, then cut 2 pieces of angle about 3" long with a hole for the bolt to pass through then screw these brackets to the doors. Then you could hold the table in place with a couple of handwheels.

Thanks guys, this site is the biz. :D
I'm going to the local caravan accessory shop today to pick up new curtain rails & popper tape. Now that I've got some ideas to work with, I'm gonna take a sketch with me and size things up for the table. I'll let you know how I get on.
My other job for today is to hang new curtains I've had made, so might not get back to you till later ,coz I'm itching to see how they actually look.
Thanks again :D :D

Here's my other idea...
Image

If you make a 4 brackets similar to this...
Image
the one fitted to the underside of the table has a bolt welded to it with a lock nut screwed on the end, so when you slide it into the angle bracket (which fits to the doors) there's just enough clearance for a tight fit. You could also replace one of the nuts for a handwheel to lock the table in place but I doubt if the table would move.

Image

There wouldn't be a gap between the two brackets, I moved them apart slightly on the drawing so you could distinguish between them
