No worries and thanks!, i wanted to lay mine out very similar to how you have yours there, mines a mwb medium height roof. as my wife is a bigger lass i decided to make a pretty heavy duty fold out bed using hinged mdf peices, which sit onto a ledge on each bench seat either side. However she's losing weight now her condition has been treated so i may be able to re-design a few bits :)

Mine's a short wheel base so I really did not have any other option but to put the kitchen where it is. I'm quite tall, so needed as much of the driver's side as possible free for a 6 foot 2 inch long bed.

The beauty of a self build is that you can swap things around if you find it's not quite working as you expected.

Found it, cheers :-) Looks great, well organised and functional. Perfect design for a camper. I am also 6'2 so have to design my be length ways, I wanted a fixed bed and garage so I got the xlwb so that I could do that and still have room. Love the idea of the extending bed you have done, seen a few of them on youtube. I have just done the same over head storage in the cab, got it from a van scrapper.

Top build mate. That has saved you a few quid :-) cant beat a self build, as you said, can change and swap things if not happy with something.

My progress reports are all on my blog here http://leekworld.com/category/campervan/ is that ok??

It's a camper. TBD: fit eberspacher, find single passenger seat, new cab curtains, finish covering ceiling, fit table.

Hello
i am considering an xlwb / t430 etc for a camper, at 6'2" is there enough headroom in the van?

6'9" headroom from floor to roof in the high roof van, according to an internet source. With insulation/flooring/ceiling you should still have headrooom. What it didn't say was if that was a FWD or RWD (FWD has an extra 4" of height). All XLWB vans are RWD.

Personally, I'd go for a FWD T350L high-roof (unless you need the extra length between LWB and XLWB); I wouldn't go for a T430 because:
a) they're rare (read: expensive!)
b) they're speed limited and have a tachograph
c) not all MOT stations can test them

Hi yes the 430 is a rare one to find but if you as like me know you are going to be overloaded if you build it on a 350 this is the problem I had I don’t know what you are looking at spending there are a lot of low mileage mk8s going thro the auctions
and also some mk7s but most of them are semi high roof

One good thing about starting with a bus is most come with single passenger seat/ power step / and fully lined out in my case I was able to use the roof lineing up to the end of the sliding door which saved a lot of work on the front of the van I was also able to sell off the seats to get some money back plus most of the Minibus’s come with a lot of toys

As for mot I think mine is now class 4 and you can remove the speed limiter and taco once you get the van logbook as a motorcaravan plus the road tax is still only £160 a year
Also the bus is cheaper then the van I got a bus of same age with less miles £2000 less and sold the seats for £1000 and you don’t need to fit windows in my case I have to many and I had to bord over all bar the sliding door one o/s front if you look on fuel lagoon site for silver screens it’s my van in the pictures for the mk8

Aye, good point, I'm building mine on a 300 chassis.

It's ok though, I'm furnishing it in cardboard......

Has anyone fitted a mid sized heki roof vent?
If so, any issues, advice?
Cheers
