Powering a fridge

Postby Starsky72 » Wed Jun 03, 2009 11:25 pm

Its music festival season, starting with Download next week - used to be Monsters of Rock :)

Anyway, I have one of the small "proper" fridges and just wondered the best way to power it from my van (2008 350LWB 140)

Thought about one of those power inverters but wouldn't know what size/type to get??!?

"Proper" fridge as in 230v mains?

You'll need an inverter or a generator to run it off

If you want to use it with the engine off you'll need extra batteries as I doubt the standard battery would last long with a fridge running off it

Even with an extra leisure battery, it still won't last long. Best bet is to fit a 'proper' camper fridge and run it off gas, uses bugger all and gets cold quick... or get mains hook up if you can.

A standard caravan fridge pulls around 10 amps on 12v, this would totally kill a Transit battery in roughly 6-8 hours :(
