Tyre Pressures and things

Postby Harley Camper » Mon Jun 08, 2009 8:40 pm

Can anyone give me a clue what tyre pressures I should use for my fully fitted fibreglass hi top conversion lwb 100L Mk 3 Transit Campervan with 14" standard wheels? :)
I also have a problem that the previous owner let the fibreglass top windows leak which has ruined the lining under them. I have had the windows out and put new seals (and sealer) which has cured the leaks but what to do with lining short of stripping it all out? :?
Finally the beds cushions always get wet (condensation - I dont think im incontinent quite yet  ) any ideas? :?

Hi for tyre pressures around 42-45 should be ok load your van then try it then go up or down you should really remove all lining material and check behind as the insulation will be soaking one way of letting your bedding breathe is to put strips of wood beneath bed dosent need to be very big 10-15mm thick would do just to let air circulate if its bad you might find your insulation is wet and leaking you need to remove it and let it dry out it can take a week or more to dry .
cheers jim.

I agree with jnwferguson, you'll have to check the insulation. Meantime, make sure the van is well ventilated, especially when parked up and not in use. Open windows and doors on warm days to let all the moisture out. I have used moisture crystals in the past and was amazed at how much they can attract, you can buy them and their special tubs at caravan accessory shops. Buy a few and place them in bedding store and cupboards. Good luck :)
Where would ya be without a can of W.D?

Thanks for the replies :D The van is dried out now so what do you advise to use as a replacement lining for the upper part of van?

To arrive at correct pressures drive at normal cruise speed on a warm day,(not hot sunny) stop and feel tyre walls, tyres should be nice and warm, if cold reduce, if hot increase. How do else do you think the manufacturers do it??. If travelling fast add, extra heavy add, Too low will overheat and blow tyres.I always stop and check tempratures if on a long run. Sun will heat up one side more usually.

You can use anything you like, what was there originally, mine had hardboard but you could fit thin plywood .
