I think I would put something on the floor,

I ve seen vans with kingspan/celotex on the floor first, but you loose at least 1 inch,

Its a big area to loose heat from,

I ve gone for a good quallity carpet underlay, straight on the floor then ply, I'm sure its got some insulation propeties, and helps with sound proofing aswell,

another option I was looking at was multifoil roof insulation, but its very expensive for a roll, & I could not find any lying around

suppose a couple of layers of the thin stuff that goes under laminate floors might be ok dont think it has much insulation properties though

just some ideas

Ive used roll mat in the past, this time around i used laminate floor underlay (The silver stuff) I placed a damp proof layer over all of that, before i put in a wooden floor that i covered in vinyl last time, but have yet to put a covering on the new van yet.

I would first bitumen the steel floor to waterproof it (just in case).

I've seen people use 3/8" (10mm to the young 'uns) thick polystyrene sheet. You can get this stuff from places like Selco or Jewsons in 8'x4' sheets (2.4m x 1.2m kids  ).

I've also seen, as above, foil cased laminate floor underlay used.

I wouldn't use Celotex as, contrary to popular belief, it will fall apart if it gets wet (trust me, I'm a Property Developer and I've had many arguements with Building Inspectors over that crap stuff!).
