secure your van

Postby frank133 » Wed Jul 29, 2009 6:36 pm

Hi guys,
I live in Liverpool so am classed as a thief,[I am not really]
but forewarned is for armed,
I want to keep my camper so,added a few security measures that might do that.
Most are home made at little cost,
The steering wheel lock is a advantage but if it doesn't cover the steering wheel centre, the thief will remove your wheel and use his own,I adapted a steering lock to cover the centre of the wheel

I just welded a plate to the lock and added a padlock, that is a visible deterrent,
I also have the usual alarm, and a battery isolator.
Then I thought of locking the brake and clutch,it was a lot of hassle,
I then found a easy solution,it was a old scissor jack,I cut it in half, welded a plate on the top to take a padlock,
it is easy to fit,and should be hard to remove?,Image

I have secured my van as much as I can,if somone wants it ,they will have to bring a angle grinder a electrician, bolt croppers, and sort out the isolator,
But then again I did watch gone in sixty seconds 8)

That scissor jack's a neat idea

A similar kind of mod I would probably convert two jacks with a solid plate in between to secure "all" the peddles myself

Nice bit of DIY all the same m8 :)

most "stolen recovered" we see have had there steeringlocks broken, if they had a steering wheel lock they cut the steering wheel to remove it, then they tow the vehicle away and brake with the handbrake :) thats normally on mk6 and above where they cant start them  theres normally a broken window as well where its dead locked, they break the window and the crackhead jumps in and its towed with an old mondeo or the like :x

True ,Geoff
I know nothing is secure,on my van you have to get in the door,[a piece of p.ss]
the alarm goes of,rip the siren out,you will struggle a bit because the bonnet release is dead tricky,
Then break the steering lock, cut the steering wheel to remove that cover I made.
You wont have any ignition ?so you sort that out,
Then you get the clutch working, quite hard I think.
Remove all that and you can tow it away, :( :(
Now I have told you I will have to kill you sorry. :D

Cheers,not good enough to sell,
I just enjoy playing with metal and stuff,
I can look at a piece of junk and see a alternative use, [scrap heap challenge must have done this to me] :D
MY wind turbine, waste oil burner, and garden motorised roller, but to name a few,
Once they are made I give them away or scrap them, :x
