mk5 camper conversion

Postby weldmatt » Wed Aug 31, 2011 10:00 pm

well here goes with my camper thread :)
i bought a 1998 swb medium roof panel van
Image
not the best paintwork ..but nothing that cant be sorted and it's moted till next april
first on the cards was replacing the dented back doors with a set from the scrappy and i set about de-locking and removing the handle as i only want them to open from the inside
Image
i also cut all the wood for the inside but its been removed so i could carry on with the rest of the work ..the floor didnt look TOO bad
Image
but upon closer inspection i found quite a lot of bodged repairs (filler and paper)..so out with the grinder and it still wasnt too bad
Image
ive seen worse :)
Image
it looks better now ...its been welded and the floor is all sealed (loads of screw holes)
the tinting film arrived this afternoon so the glass has been tinted and the fitting of the windows starts tomorrow :~

more to follow

well strangely enough it was dry enough here to get some work done on bitzi .she's now fully wired for 240 ,and completely plumbed in with gas (something satisfying about sitting in the van doing wiring while boiling the kettle for a cuppa lol)
got the zig unit fitted and going to finish the 12v wiring tomorrow ...hopefully get the front seats fitted before i go back on shift :(

here is a short pic history of the build (so far)

picked up a set of these from the bay :)
Image

started by carpeting ..then fitting the sides and roof
Image

meet akira .. she joined the family recently and took to the van straight away lol
Image

this is the sink/cooker/fridge/grill/oven unit being built (note the lack of windows still)
Image

yay .. finally got the windows (and scene light) fitted
Image

time for painting (while we had a week of good weather)...dont ya just love gazebo's
Image

6 coats of rustoleum later
Image

more pics of the interior to follow :) when i get time to sort through them :)

I watched a video of a bloke painting the side of a barge he used a big roller then went over it lightly with a dry brush and it looked brilliant.

there is a couple of runs in the paint i'll address them in a few weeks ... to be honest the painting was pretty easy :) .. but still glad its done ..typical tho i bought 5l of paint (2 x 2.5l tins) and wont need the 2nd tin lol
went out today and bought a 2nd battery for the van ..got a 800amp 80ah bosch brand new £60
and tonight a mate of mine turned up with 2 h/d batteries 1250amp 115 a/h for nowt :) ....damn i knew i shouldnt have bought the new one :)
