Swivel Drivers Seat Mk6

How do you guys get around the handbrake using swivel seats for the drivers seat, on the Mk6 also is the battery a problem?

The handbrake must be dropped for the drivers seat to swivel, we use the "PROMECH" or MAPA swivel bases which means battery box stays where it is and the plate bolts between pedestal and seat runners. PROMECH is the cheapest option at around £60 but a bit of fabrication required to make it work, MAPA, SCOPEMA, FASP, or SPORTSCRAFT are dearer but plug and play. Ring Autocraft in Stavely for a price first and then call JENNINGS CVS and haggle over the phone with them! If you want to be robbed / raped call Grass Routes Leisure , or if you need to remortgage call TORBAY conversions. Hope that helps.

Is it possible for someone to explain how exactly the handbrake is lowered please?
I can see how it's bolted to the side of the battery box, but how does it get secured lower down?

As you can possibly tell, I'm wanting to fit a seat swivel to the drivers seat.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Nornally it does not get lowered, we ask customers to put the vehicle in gear , drop the handbrake, swivel the seat and then put the handbrake back up - Westfalia factory Transits work in the same way

My van is 1990 the swivel bases were a ford part, many years ago,
I also have to take the handbrake off to swivel the drivers seat,
Its put it in gear hand brake of while keeping foot on brake pedal,
It helps if your a contortionist.if I dont do it this way it usualy rolls off the leveling ramps.
I am in the process of changing the old saab seats, for Lexus electric seats, the seat bases were adapted to fit the swivel.
But the seats are too high,so I have removed the swivel bit and my son is going to cut 3" off them.
I think its going to be worth the hassel, they are boss looking half leather seats.

Okay, I've just checked my seat/handbrake relationship, and there is no way I would be able to swivel the seat just by not having the handbrake in the UP position.

For info, my campervan is a 2005 reg LWB Hi-Top conversion, rear wheel drive.

So...............I'm still looking for info on how to safely lower or change the physical position of the handbrake lever...befoe I invest in another seat swivel.

I have fitted the Lexus seats today ,and they tend to stick on the handbrake, they will swivel
I am going to look into moving the handbrake a few inches to the left.

the Saab seat looks a bit dejected, but they will live on in my sons workshop,
This is how they look in the van,

Just the leccy to wire up to the seats and its job done,

Not sure what swivel plate you are using but it caused us no issues. Give Jennings CVS a call they will advise you on the best swivel plate to use. Tel: 01270 257417

ive posted before on this but at the risk of boring you :D ill post a few pics again. i fitted mapa swivels on my mk7. i lowerad the h/b to the floor on a bracket and moved the seat belt mounts on to the seat plinth. (welded in a capctive nut. )my bracket inclines the h/b by about 10deg and i can rotate the seat with the h/b on. a friend had his lowered by a garage and ill post that pic as well. his is still attached to the plinth. one final thing ill mention, i made a bracket for the underside of the van as well just to keep the h/b cable clear of prop shaft and exhaust. ta andy

friends job.

I was lucky enough to find a scissor type seat base on a transit in a breakers. Not sure if it was original equipment but its handy to change the drivers seat height to clear the handbrake for swiveling the seat . My seats are from a Toyota Lucida and have a swivel plate built into them and double arm rests.
I'll try post a pic tomorrow

The way is to fit the handbrake to the other side of the seat like Ake's funbus had as standard.
