My name is Javier and I´m the proud owner of an incredible Ford Transit MK3 from 1991. The legend, the myth itself. The kilometres devourer. I bought it in 2021 with (apparently) 165.000kms on the counter, as far as I've been able to double check with local authorities. The unit itself is a campervan manufactured by Reimo back in the 90's, when things were still cool. I was born myself in 1991, so I know what I'm talking about.
Appart from weekend usage and renting it, in 2022 I drove from my hometown in the Canary Islands, to Montenegro, in a trip that took me across Portugal, mainland Spain, France, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia. Four months of absolute delight driving at a beautiful speed of 85km/h on average. Plenty of time to enjoy the views and no speed tickets, what else? In all of these 4 months the van drove smooth, just checking oil level and tire pressure and that was it pretty much. Things got a bit stressful when the suspension ball joints (one side first, and then the other) broke in the middle of Hvar island in Croatia with not a lot of garages around capable of even lifting a van. Luckily, I managed to find someone that fixed it in Split. After that, the van returned driving to Spain with no further issues, appart from a broken window in Antibes (France) when someone sneaked into it.
This trip made me realise that this machines with their 2.5D engines and simple mechanics, are capable of taking you to the end of the world with a bit of love and patience, so instead of selling it after returning from my trip, as the initial plan was, I decided that I would keep it and improve it for further adventures. Since then, many improvements have been done: new batteries, new brakes, solar panel, new fridge, new electrics... This is only the beginning as my wish is to keep it ready for travelling and make lots of kms with it.
Hopefully with the help of the forum I'll be able to deepen my technical knowledge about this lovely machine, as I feel that due to its simplicity, many repairs can be done at home with a little help and guidance.
Thank you all and best wishes!!!
