Camper Van conversion journey begins

Postby searching fool » Thu Feb 29, 2024 12:15 pm

Hi all,

I'm starting out looking for a Ford Transit L3H4 used to convert to a camper van - target is to be self sufficient on the road as much as possible -

This is a pre-retirement project :)

I'm located in Czech Republic and so looking around primarily here and adjoining countries - really trying to find the right van that will be very reliable. I'm particular to Ford as it is widely used and parts are available everywhere it seems - globally so if I have an issue it is likely I can solve it locally almost no matter where we may be.

I'm motivated by the many DIY conversions I've seen on similar vans - making space in my barn to get this project done.

Honestly till now I'm confused about the various mixed messages around engine reliability in particular and to some degree on the electrical issues that seemed to arise on some but I'm working my way through trying to make sense of what my target purchase should look like -
