Nice to be able to join this board. I have a 1989 Ford Transit Westfalia Mk3 equipped with a 2.0 OHC 'Pinto' engine and a pop-top roof.
Back in 2019, as a 19-year-old, I borrowed this van from a friend's grandparents for a trip with some friends to Slovenia. It was quite gutsy of them, but the van was in questionable technical condition and had a low valuation. The car dealer had only offered €1200 for it.
Upon returning from our vacation, I heard about the offer, and decided to take the plunge – purchasing the van for €1400. It seemed like a smart move, as I was preparing to move out, and having a van is pretty handy. My initial plan was to sell it after moving.
However, on my way home, the timing belt snapped... Needless to say, I never moved any furniture with it, but thanks to some repair guides and basic tools, I managed to fix the problem with a refurbished cylinder head (for only €50!) and got the carburetor sorted, even though the Ford VV turned out to be finicky. It runs great now, no more idling issues and stalling.
Selling the van never came to fruition either, as I ended up in a relationship, and we now frequently go on camping with it. Any profit hopes vanished too, considering I've since replaced the transmission, overhauled the brakes and did a lot of rust prevention.
But here we are now! I do have a question regarding the refurbished transmission, which I will post in the appropriate sub-forum if my first post is approved.
