I've always been a VW guy (don't ban me) but in my old age (38) I'm not as biased as I used to be. I have a reselling business and recently gone full time so a van was an absolute necessity. I've always been into older cars 80's 90's and early 2000s (before they became smart phones on wheels).
Picked up this 98 transit for the reasonable price of £1750 locally. 2 former owners! First being united utilities van until 2004 and then a builder had it since then. Done 147,000 miles. It's a 2.5 turbo (i don't know if they were all 2.5t) Some may have even seen it advertised on ebay. It does have a 'few' issues. Some that I need to rectify much sooner than the rest before I start modifying. The first being the seat issue.
- the rails that the seats are on have rotted so they have bolted them into place, tbe builder was about 5ft 9 and I'm 6ft 1 so I'm driving it frog legged which is really difficult and uncomfortable so I need replacement seats and bases, hopefully from a later model ASAP. Any help with this is fully appreciated.
- All the locks are temperamental, you have to wiggle the key and apply a decent amount of force to unlock the doors inc sliding doors
- The rear door will only unlock/lock from the inside and doesn't seem flush with the other rear door even when locked.
- Heating controls are very stiff, I can only move them about 25° in either direction
- Changing gear is.... interesting, very sloppy, does anyone know where the best place is to get a new gear linkage kit?
Other than that its a well serviced and well-welded vehicle and I'm looking forward to many adventures in it.
