Painting - what colour etc.?? discuss it all in this thread!

Postby Luke » Sun Mar 06, 2011 10:41 am

we need to get a few things sorted with the paint :!:

i'll admit this isnt my area of expertese :( i've done a few resprays over the years but nothing to the standard we need

i can have a word with a mate who works at a paint supplier see if we can get a good deal (but anyone else is welcome to do this too - be nice if we could get some donated free)- but what paint - 2k celly etc :? all stuff i dont know much about :?

it's going to be tight getting it done in time, ive spoke to a few painters and they agree its possable - we'll be spraying it saturday night building it back up sunday  viewtopic.php?f=63&t=73887 we may need to come back to it to do the final work when its fully cured :)

we need volenteers to actually spray it - i'm told we'd proberbly need more than 1 man spraying at the same time :?:

also we need to decide on a colour - i know from experiance white hides imperfections better - it would need to be perfect to be black :o but theres so many white vans a unique colour would be nice 8)

discuss................................

It will have to be 2K whatever the colour, we need it to shine straight out of the tin!

I'd like to see it in Focus ST orange personally, but then I'm not painting it :!:

I agree 8) The problem is we don't have the time to get the body perfect for a dark or trick colour

the other option is 2 tone  - say do the lower half a different colour (that purple if snapon still has it) but i dont think we'd have time for that :? we'd have to mabe spray the lower on the sunday night :?

2 tone with base and clear would be ok, but just remember the prep is everything... whatever the colour, and if you havent an oven :| you need plenty of drying time :!:

If its not going to be white it needs to be a nice light colour - no way we can get it good enough for a mid - dark colour in the time avaliable.

I still think the 3rd axle idea is overly ambitious with regards to the bodywork, but i'm happy to run with it (now I have expressed my doubts).

It is ambitious I'll agree, but I reckon it's possible as long as we have a decent crew and work methodically. Plus, it's gonna look awesome :D 8)
