Just a thought is it worth replacing the bottom of the doors and other parts that are prone to rust where its possible with stainless steel to preserve the van for a few years to come :)

what we need to do is waxoil them inside while it's all stripped down that will preserve them for another 20 years- the doors are allready in remarkable good nick for an 18 year old transit
fitting stainless would be a fair amount of hassle and you'd still get corrosion on the welded area :(

just a thought.... once it is made, what will happen with it? it would be too big for most trailers and it would not be road legal as it would be a modified vehicle, how would it be transported to a temporary home?

i was thinking about between finishing it and getting an mot, i'm guessing it will not be tested immediately after finishing it, wouldnt it need an sva or something similar?

Something to think about. I built a truck from parts - needed a Police inspection and an MOT before I could get a V5 (and number plates)- I got the insurance on the chassis number and drove it to the MOT station. Checked this was ok with the Police, as I didnt have any number plates.
There was no way I was going to pay out for a transporter just to satisfy some bit of bureaucracy!

i cant see it needing anything like an sva - were not actually altering the wheelbase just adding a bit to the back :D - just like when you fit a luton back to a pickup

But this has plates as the majority of the vehicle is still there :!:

I agree, having recently had to read a lot of the SVA rules n regs I can't see it needing anything other than an MOT and declared mods for the insurance :D

Speaking of insurance, assuming we can get it MOT'd close to the build site I can drive it to its temporary home on my trade insurance
