if i remeber the compreshion ratio with be down were the dipstic tube is as paul says :wink: if its erly p5/6 it will have rope seals :shock:

when i was into them i used the later block called the stiff block this was the type that was fitted to johno,s van! :wink:
great engine i use to get 24mpg out of mine 8) 8) and it sounded awsome!

was ures a white 1 mk3 back in1992/3 at grendon underwood i think nsva :roll:

yep - it's a BW45 :D

other engine news - ive just pulled the plugs - they all look good 8) and the engine turns over (socket on the crank) nice and easy :mrgreen:

the dizzy is totally wrecked, shafts slightly bent and the case is cracked :( so we need one of those - so any ideas what we need (years/models) :?:

prolly like the jag ive just done, rear mains oil seal was asbestos rope :D

actually it's not it's a BW35 - i was reading it wrong the 45 is stamped on and it's actually a 43 :oops: :lol:

still cant find the compression ratio tho :?

"Rope seals" might mean the outer crankcase seals.

On older vehicles/classics these were made of a cloth material and if you parked the car up for any time (2-3 months) you would still have to rotate the crank every now and then to lubricate the seals because if they dried out they would knacker up.

might have to get some new ones then :lol:

also i'll have a look for my compression tester then do a compression test on it :idea: should give us a good idea of how good it is :D
