extended tag axle 6 wheeler :!: 8) 8) 8)

we do have 2 vans we could use  - get some thick walled box section run it down the chassis rails for extra strength cut and extend the body - fit a 2nd axle drive the front axle and have the rear one just trailing, braking and suspention but not driving :D

can anyone knock us up a photoshop :?:  8)

Just a thought - why not use the front axle and subframe? Once the trackrods are made into trailing arms then it would drive straight.
Advantages - no need to stagger the leaf springs to get wheels close together, Can go in front or behind drive axle as prop - exhaust etc wont foul on the diff bits + will look more intentional!

i reckon the easyest way would be to use an empty (no diff or halfshafts) axle casing mounted in the same way as the front back axle - but as you say move the leafs inboard a bit - doing that shouldnt affect the stability as the front axle will be in the origanal place and still have the outboard leafs :D

the only thing i can think of is how would you lubricate the wheel bearings on the back axle with no halfshafts or diff to circulate the oil round to them  unless we weld a blank in where the half shaft should go then drill tap the top (fit a vented plug) and fill the voids with gear oil  :D

Starting to get complicated. If you want to keep the leaf springs, then is there a way of mounting the front hubs on a beam axle?

just been on the phone to martin - he suggested a mk6 fwd back axle :D that would be idea :D
the problem with a front axle is the strut would go up into the van and we'd need to fab a top mount :)

Yey :) Jobs a good un!

Still need to work out positions for shock mounts, and remember we will need down rated springs and shocks or the ride is liable to be very harsh.

thats one big panel to get right with no ripples  the best way would be ..if poss to seperate factory joints and extend it that way?? if we had,,lets say a spare jumbo we cut cut the extra 18 inch out of it and use that on the back of the project van,,,if you see what i mean?

Make the join along a natural break in the panel. 1st rule of design asthetics - if you cant hide it - make a feature of it!

I can think of a few reasons...

First off the standard of luxury expected in a limo might be tricky to acheive in a weekend.
then it will cost a lot, Aim being to raise money not spend it :)
