The basic weekend schedule so far and list of teams.........

Postby Luke » Sun Sep 26, 2010 9:17 pm

This isnt final but having a think about it if we're gonna do it in a weekend the 3 main jobs - (1) fitting the V8, (2) extending the body and (3) Painting it need to be done at key stages :D

i think this is the best way to do it :D Nothings cast in stone but it wont alter much from this, ive tried to think of just about every job we'd need to do and give enough time to do it :D

I've got some more comprehensive lists but i'll add those later when i'm better informed - i am getting advice from forum members on areas im unsure of :D
I might have missed jobs out in this list but dont worry - it doesnt mean i havent thought of them :o

The Basic Schedule
Thursday AM
Arrive on site set up

Thursday Afternoon
Strip van A down but leave axles on
Strip van B totally
chassis repairs to van A

Friday Day
Fit engine gearbox make all mounts etc. and remove before night
start making exhaust
Join back of Van B to van A
Work on all doors and bonnet off van
Refirb drive train off Van B
Interior – as much as possable

Friday Night
Spray engine bay and all door shuts, door backs etc.

Saturday Day
Refit engine
finish exhaust
Fit all refirb’d parts
Bodywork on sides – loose the join between the 2 van
Refit doors and bonnet
Interior work

Saturday Night
Spray full van

Sunday Day Till it’s done
Finishing off buffing etc.
Any airbrushing stripes etc.
Fit lights, trim, windows screen etc.
Finish interior
Fit alloys
Any extra work needed on engine fitting drive train etc.

This is just a quick drawing ive done (in paint) to illustrate it better - ive only used red to illustrate what parts are painted - doesnt mean its gonna be in red :!: :D

What we're gonna do is divide us up into teams, each team will have set objectives to do and time allocated to them, each team will have a designated person responsible for organising that team, making sure everything is going to plan 8)

Once your team has done all they need to there will be no problem people helping others out, but without set out targets and objectives there’s no way we’d get this done

Again this is subject to minor changes but this is the general idea for the teams :D

Fabrication crew - These guys will be responsible for all welding, the repairs to chassis and body, cutting and fitting back also fitting new wings and arches – will need to work closely with the bodywork team

Bodywork team (including Painter) – Once the fabrication crew have repaired the metalwork the bodywork team will finish it off, filling sanding flatting prepping and painting, the main tasks this team will have is hiding the join in the 2 vans and the full respray of the finished van

Engine fitting crew – Responsable for fitting the V8 engine and gearbox, making the mounts and getting it running also all pipe work fuel lines, radiator oil coolers etc. They will need to work with electrical team for the wiring part of the engine.

Exhaust team – Hopefully we’ll get enough volunteers to have 1 or 2 guys allocated just to manufacturing and fitting the exhaust as this will need to be custom made whoever does this will need to work with the engine fitting team

Electrical team – This team will have to do all the wiring, lights, extending wiring, interior lighting, also if we fit central locking or electric windows they will have them to fit, they will need to work closely with the engine crew, interior team and the ice team

ICE team – The ICE team’s job will be to fit stereo, amp, speakers, TV and any other ice we have playstation, DVD player, Xbox etc. They will obviously need to work with the electrical team and interior team

Interior team – Depending on how many volunteers we get depends on how far we can go with the interior, but this team will be responsible for building everything that goes inside the van, ply lining and carpeting the back out, trimming, making the bed, seats, table and any appliance plumbing that needs doing, they will need to work with closely with the electrical team and ice team

Cleaning and fettling crew – An ideal job for anyone who wants to get involved with the build but doesn’t feel up to any other teams, once all parts have been removed they will need cleaning and painting, things like suspension components, brackets, battery tray, will need to be wire brushed up and hammerited

Brakes & bearings man/men – Again providing we can get enough volunteers we should be able to have 1 or 2 guys responsible for just the brakes on the van, basically check over all brakes, fit 6stud disks and callipers and servo to 5 stud hubs also run brake lines and handbrake cable. Also check over and refirb and setup wheel bearings, they will also need to pipe up the 2nd axle and set the balance between them both.

Mechanical team – I think we’ll need a small team for building back up the areas not covered by other teams, things like refitting the suspension, wheels steering, prop shaft and general refitting of parts, I don’t think we’ll need that many guys in this team as when jobs are complete it should free up other people to help out with these jobs

Store person - As all parts are brought in we’ll drop them off with the store person they will keep them organised and give them out to the different teams as and when needed, also as parts are removed off the donor vans they will keep them in a set area and as people want them they will issue them out. I think this role is vital to the smooth running of the build, for example if you took some seat bolts out on the Thursday they would be kept safe until they are needed to go back in on the Sunday – no wasting time looking round for bolts.

Window man/men– Responsible for removing and refitting the windscreen and windows, tinting and fitting any extra windows

That mock-up looks great, red is the way to go.

Thought i'd put it here Luke, this stuff is brilliant and it would be good to have various sized tubs of solution for stuff like discs, manifolds, nuts/bolts, etc. in order to easily de-rust any metal parts as they come off after a degrease.

This is brilliant too.

Luke you need someone to film all this so everyone can watch the transformation, would be a good event to film, just a suggestion,it would be a shame not to,so add a camera man to your list, atb,
